Learning Italian will really help you to do as the Romans do the next time you are in Rome – and the delights of Venice, Florence and Milan will be open to you as well. Italian culture has fascinated and delighted the world for many years – and it continues to do so. It boasts deliciously diverse regional foods and is where some of the world’s finest artworks have been produced. Italy is also known for its elegant fashion and its dazzling football - all of these cultural gems can be better appreciated by those who can speak Italian.

Italian places the romance into the Romance languages and you will be speaking this beautiful language in no time when you study with our native teachers. In small groups, you will have plenty of chance to practise speaking and listening and will soon be able to feel like a local on the historic streets of Verona or the captivating canals of Venice!

What will I learn?

Courses are designed to follow the Council of Europe syllabus. This is essentially a list of different things you should be able to do in the language, and by looking at the table below you can get an idea of how long it might take you.

The focus in all languages we teach is to get you using the language. If you would like to see what level you are try our online test and please get in touch if you have any questions; we can also assess your level on the phone. Except for Beginner's courses you can take a trial lesson with no obligation.

A2 Pre-Intermediate 20 hours Asking for information, expressing surprise, sympathy, needs, opinions. Health, sports, requests, intentions. Imperfect and Perfect tenses, Imperatives.
Low Intermediate A 20 hours Talking about childhood, past habits, opinion about something, suppositions, Making, accepting and refusing proposals giving reasons for it, appointments, booking tickets by phone, Past, Present Perfect, conditional, future forms, pronouns +infinitive.
Low Intermediate B 20 hours Talking about future events, Talking about work, Understanding job advertisements, Writing a Curriculum Vitae and a covering letter, Describing a house, Apologizing, Present subjunctive, Verbs with direct object pronouns and indirect object pronouns.
 
B1 Intermediate A 20 hours Expressing disappointment and resignation, Asking for permission/giving permission, Expressing agreement and disagreement, Asking for help, Complaining, Stating purpose, Italian cities and regions,Trapassato prossimo, Negative prefix in-, Past subjunctive.
Intermediate B 20 hours Giving explanations, Offering help, Expressing a condition, Giving opinions, Talking about books and newspapers articles, Festivals and celebrations, Congiuntivo imperfetto, Indirect speech with present tense, Past conditional.
Intermediate C 20 hours Expressing disappointment and regret, Making a request, Expressing conditions and consequences, Discovering Italy, Congiuntivo trapassato, Use of subjunctive with indefinite pronouns, Relative pronouns il cui/la cui/i cui/le cui, Use of subjunctive with indefinite pronouns.
